Must know before dermaplaning at home

1. Hydrate

Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids in the 24-48 hours leading up to when you use your brac. Dermaplane.  This ensures you’re keeping your skin hydrated, which is essential for healthy skin.

2. Moisturise

Ensure your skin is well moisturised after use, so that dermaplaning does not cause any irritation or discomfort during treatment time.

3. Inspect for irritation & acne

It is important that the skin is healthy prior to treatment, and that there is no acne or wounds/sores on the face, as if you dermaplane over these, it can cause cuts and irritation.

4. Don’t Exfoliate prior

We suggest not exfoliating in the 7 days leading up to when you use your brac. Dermaplane. The reason being is that prior to dermaplaning which will give your skin a deep topical exfoliation, you must allow you skin cells to regenerate. Acne breakouts, hyper/hypo pigmentation, redness, and dry skin can be caused by over exfoliation.

5. Avoid skincare containing retinol or glycolic acid

If you have sensitive skin, you should also avoid using products with retinol or glycolic acid included in the formulation 7 days prior to and after dermaplaning, so take a look at the ingredients lists on your skincare. Retinol can cause the skin to become flaky and uneven which means you’d then need to delay dermaplaning. If you’re taking oral and topical skincare products for your face, consult with your doctor prior to using a dermaplane.

6. Stay out of the direct sun

If you’re going outside, don’t forget sun protection! The Dermaplaning process that removes dead skin cells and hair can cause your skin to become more sensitive than usual and being overexposed to the sun prior to dermaplaning may likely exacerbate this. This means you should avoid direct sun exposure and always use sunscreen when going outside during any month of the year.

7. Do not shave prior (this goes for men too)

One of the worst ways to prepare for dermaplaning is shaving prior, which isn’t recommended. You should avoid it, as irritation and razor bumps may occur if you do so. The blade helps remove unwanted dead skin cells and facial hair (which can appear thick), so shaving before can cause it to be uneven.

8. Pause other treatments two weeks pre and post dermaplaning

Wait at least 2 weeks before or after dermaplaning before considering any injectables. This also applies to waxing, facials, skin peels and other procedures.  Overloading the skin after using your brac. Dermaplane may affect your skin’s natural regeneration and also lessen the results you experience.

9. Check if you’re a good candidate for Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is not recommended in most cases for those with active acne, very sensitive skin or with certain forms of rosacea. It is also not recommended if you have more course dark hairs on your face nor for anyone with a hormonal imbalance that experiences excess hair growth on the face (ie women with PCOS), are generally advised to avoid this treatment.

Using the brac. Dermaplane is also the perfect option for pregnant or nursing women who want exfoliation. This treatment is safe for the baby because it does not involve harsh chemicals.

10. Know where is safe to Dermaplane on your face

Dermaplaning should be performed only on the face, excluding eyelids and lips. The procedure cannot be done on any other part of the body.

11. After care

No Botox or beauty treatments on your face two weeks before or after the use.

No potent retinol, glycolic, or prescription products five days before or after use.
